Box Score Monmouth battled, but dropped a 64-42 decision to Grinnell as the Monmouth student's returned from Winter Break.
 
The contest began with a defensive battle in the first quarter of play as the Scots trailed 11-8.  In the second quarter, Grinnell found a spark going on a 12-0 run to finish out the half. Pioneer Kayla Morrissey led all scorers in the first half with 14 points.
 
After the break, the Pioneers continued to grow their lead throughout the second half. Freshman Fighting Scot Yvonne Ornelas proved to be a spark from the point guard position. Ornelas totaled 8 points and 3 steals during her 40 minutes of play. Freshman counterpart Jeni Crain pitched in 11 points of her own and hauled in seven rebounds.
 
With the loss the Scots (2-12, 2-7 MWC) prepare for a rematch with the Foresters this Saturday in Lake Forest, Ill.
