Monmouth's men won all but one event Saturday as the Fighting Scots and Knox Prairie Fire split a dual meet at Monmouth's Pepper Natatorium. The Fighting Scots men rolled past Knox 158-32 while Monmouth's women were edged 110-103.
The Scots men and women earned bookend victories, touching first in the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay and winning the final race, the 200 freestyle relay. The women's foursome of
Emily Mathews,
Michelle Nafziger,
Brittany Lira and
Claire Woodrow took the first race in 2:07.88. Lira and Woodrow were joined by divers
Allie Vallance and
Brooke Boldt to win the final race in 1:51.01. On the men's side,
Jake Hall,
Andrew Domkuski,
Riley Hess and
Noah Barnard posted a 1:44.85 to win the medley event while Domkuski,
Shayne Stone,
Cristian Corbett and Matt Engebretsen formed an all-senior relay to win the freestyle in 1:38.64.
Monmouth's two senior divers – Vallance and Boldt – turned in record-level performances in the diving well. Vallance narrowly missed her own school record in the 1-meter, 6-dive event with a winning score of 250.65. Boldt turned in her lifetime-best to take third with a mark of 187.95.
The Scots' women also controlled the sprint and middle distance races when Mathews touched first in the 200 freestyle, clocking a 2:17.66 to win by more than eight seconds. Woodrow led the 50 freestyle field with a 26.73 and
Michelle Nafziger posted a four-second win in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:20.26.
Men's newcomer
Rik Doornenbal picked up a pair of wins in the distance freestyle races. He clocked a PR of 10:42.53 to win the 1,000 and then clocked a winning 500 time of 5:14.84.
Barnard joined Doornenbal with two individual victories, claiming both in the freestyle. The freshman won the 200 by 15 seconds, touching in 1:50.07. The margin was five seconds in the 100 where he touched in 49.68.
Monmouth's other men's wins included
Logan Hoepfner in the 50 free (23.68), Hess in the 200 IM (2:15.48),
Jake Hall in the 100 back (58.41) and Domkuski in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.78).
The Scots travel to Principia next weekend for the Panther Invitational.
