WOMEN CAN'T SHAKE OFF COOL NIGHT IN IOWA

Box Score Monmouth hung with the No. 2 team in the Midwest Conference for nearly all but seven minutes of a 76-51 loss at Cornell.
 
The Fighting Scots came back quickly after the Rams opened with a 5-0 lead, tying the game on a 3-pointer form Katie Houston and a jumper from Emily Watkins. Kelsey Walsberg's first of five 3-pointers then gave Monmouth an 11-10 lead before the Rams heated up from deep.
 
Cornell used an 18-5 run to open the second quarter en route to building a 38-16 lead. Despite 12 first half points from Walsberg and staying nearly even on the boards with the Rams (21-17), the Scots trailed 45-25 at intermission.
 
Playing on their home court, the Rams shot 53.3 percent from deep, draining eight treys in the first half. From the floor, Cornell shot above 50 percent and had major contributions from the bench totaling 28 points.
 
The second half contained more of the same as the lead would drop no lower than 15 for the Rams.
 
For the Scots, Walsberg shot 50 percent from three and poured in 16 points. Houston also found the double digit mark with 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
 
The Rams capitalized on the Scots 22 turnovers scoring 25 points off of the added opportunities.
 
The Fighting Scots (4-16, 3-12) will be back home Saturday with a 4 p.m. contest against the Beloit Buccaneers (7-13, 5-10).
