Box Score Monmouth controlled play Saturday afternoon as the Scots picked up their first Midwest Conference win in a 65-60 victory over Beloit.
Â
The Fighting Scots rebounded from Friday night's loss to finish the double-header weekend 1-1 as freshman off-guard
Rebecca Gallis scored her first double-double, knocking down 14 points and pulling 10 rebounds.
Â
The Scots controlled the glass in the first half in large part to Gallis' work on the defensive end. Junior guard
Izy Todd ignited the Scots offense from beyond the arc, netting four triples and adding an assist to her first half totals.
Â
With 2:28 to go in the second quarter, the Scots trailed by eight. Freshman
Jeni Crain fueled the late first half run, knocking down a 3-pointer and finding Todd for another. At the half, Monmouth trailed by three 29-26.
Â
In the second half, the Scots would turn the ball over just eight times and be lifted again by Crain's efforts as she poured in 14 of her game high 19 points. The Scots shared the ball and the scoring as four Scots finished in double figures with Todd finishing with 13 and
Yvonne Ornelas' 10.
Â
Monmouth (1-4, 1-2) will head east on high way 34 next Wednesday night for a 5:30pm road contest versus the Prairie Fire.
