Box Score Monmouth nearly matched Midwest Conference foe Illinois College shot-for-shot in the league opener at Glennie Gym, but dropped a narrow 84-74 decision to the Lady Blues Tuesday night.
 
After falling behind by double digits early in the second quarter, Monmouth came back with a 13-2 run to take a 37-36 halftime lead. Maddie Dohleman started the surge, sinking a layup off a feed from Izy Todd to cut the margin to eight at 34-26 with 5:16 left in the half. Rebecca Gallis followed with a pair of free throws and Demi Johnson added a 3-pointer after a Yvonne Ornelas steal. Ornelas' theft on the following IC possession set up Keri Dodson's layup to cut the whoel to three at 36-33. Mariah Cole then gave Monmouth the lead with a pair of put-backs.
 
The Scots continued their hot shooting early in the second half, building an early seven-point lead on Dodson's layup. The Lady Blues then cut into the lead with a three-ball and then went on an 8-3 run to regain the lead for good.
 
Gallis finished with a team-high 23 points, connecting on seven 3-pointers. Dodson added 20.
