Monmouth hit nearly 32 percent from 3-point range in a 76-61 Midwest Conference opening win over Illinois College Tuesday night at Glennie Gym.

Cam Sturtevant's 3-poiner at the 12:57 mark of the first half gave the Scots a lead they would not relinquish after taking the 14-11 lead. The Scots inched ahead and closed out the first half on a 15-2 run behind a
Will Jones three and Paul Engo's pair of free throws in the final 1:15 of the half to lead 40-26 at the break.

Engo's free throw at the 14:25 mark of the second half gave the Scots an 18-point edge at 52-34 before the Blueboys rallied back to cut the deficit to seven at 63-56 with 6:22 left on four consecutive free throws. The Scots responded when
Justin Aluya connected on a layup-and-one.
Lamont Mitchell then added a bucket inside as the Scots regained a double-digit lead for the final five minutes.

Jones and Engo led a balanced attack with 14 points each. Mitchell added 13 and Sturtevant 10. Jones also picked up 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.
