Monmouth's swimming and diving team faced their most rigorous weekend to date with a Friday-Saturday combo that included a home date followed by nationally-ranked competition. A day after hosting Augustana for a dual meet, the Scots won two events and turned in three personal-best performances at the seven-team Illinois Wesleyan Invitational.
Divers
Allie Vallance and
Brooke Boldt gave the Scots at boost the IWU meet with a win and a PR. Vallance took top honors in the 1-meter, 11-dive competition with a score of 384.90. Boldt easily took sixth with her lifetime-best mark of 290.35.
Freshman
Noah Barnard led the charge in the men's pool, winning the 50 and 100-yard freestyle swims on Friday with a 22.22 and 48.74, respectively. He followed with lifetime bests Saturday with a win in the 100 free (47.91) and a runner up finish in the 50 (21.91).
Claire Woodrow warmed up for Saturday's competition by touching first on Friday in the 1,000 freestyle, clocking an 11:54.66. She placed eighth Saturday in the 200 free with a 2:06.38 and followed with a 5:43.22 to place ninth in the 500.
Newcomer
Rik Doornenbal improved his time in 24 hours after taking ninth in the men's 500 (5:11.85) a day after winning the event in Monmouth's pool with a 5:16.24.
Jake Hall matched Doornenbal's Saturday finish with a ninth-place showing in the 100 back, clocking a 57.97 in the IWU pool.
Monmouth's men also had a strong showing in the relays where they placed third in two events. Hall and Barnard teamed with
Tom Cangelosi and
Christian Hernandez to clock a 1:45.19 in the meet-opening 200 medley relay. The Scots closed the meet in the 200 free relay where Barnard joined
Andrew Domkuski, Matt Engebretsen and
Logan Hoepfner to touch in 1:31.74.
The Scots are off until Dec. 2-3 when they travel to Grinnell, Iowa, for the Pioneer Classic.
