Box Score Maddie  Dohleman hit 8-of-11 shots en route to a double-double in Monmouth's season opener at Millikin, but the effort wasn't enough in an 82-60 loss to the Big Blue.
 
The Scots' junior post pumped in 21 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as the Scots rallied from a slow start. Trailing 20-10 entering the second quarter, Dohleman drained a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to eight. A layup  by Yvonne Ornelas and ensuing free throw trimmed the deficit even more and Demi Johnson's bucket a minute later put Monmouth within reach at 27-21. Dohleman's layup at the 2:56 mark pulled the Scots within four at 29-25.
 
Monmouth continued the surge in the second half when Rebecca Gallis old-fashioned 3-point play on the way to an 11-point night made it 35-30 in the first 40 seconds of the third quarter. Another Dohleman bucket timed the margin to three on the Scots' next possession, but that was as close as the Scots would get.
 
The Scots host Illinois College next Tuesday for their home opener at Glennie Gym.
