Box Score The 2016 home opener proved to provide Scots fans with a happy start to the New Year as the Scots pulled away for an 89-47 win over Illinois College.
Success started on the defensive end of the floor in the first half as the Scots held Illinois College to 17 points, 16.7 percent field goal shooting and forcing eight turnovers.Monmouth's defense stifled IC, holding them to just five points through the first tten minutes. Although the rebounding battle remained nearly deadlocked, the Scots shot 56.3 percent from the floor and posted 43 first half points. Led by freshman
Lamont Mitchell, with 13 points and four rebounds in just 12 minutes, the Scots managed to run away from the Blue Boys.
The second half continued to be successful for the Scots as senior
Reed Goodbred and sophomore
Will Jones chimed in to finish with 10 points apiece.
Hot shooting from the floor continued to flourish as the Scots poured in 46 more points at a 60.7 percent rate over the final 20 minutes. The Scots' capitalizing on 31 points off of turnovers, 46 points in the paint, and 43 bench points, to open 2016 at Glennie Gym.
The Fighting Scots will travel to Lawrence University Saturday as conference foes meet for the first time this season.
