MEN STAY IN CONTENTION DESPITE LOSS

Box Score Monmouth stayed one game backinteh Midwest Conference Tournament race despite an afternoon of cold shooting in a 73-56 loss at St.Norbert.
 
What began as a tightly fought first half match up, left the Scots trailing by 11 heading into the midway point. 
 
After one half, the battle for the boards was tied at 16 all. Turnovers and poor shooting contributed to the Knights lead. The Scots turned the ball over 10 times in the first half while shooting 29.6 percent from the floor and 12.5 percent from the 3-point arc. Senior point guard Jon Calhoun led the way with 7 points and one assist as the first half horn sounded.
 
The Knights would open the second half on a 7-0 run, bumping their lead up to 18, a lead that would balloon as large as 28. The Scots cold shooting was matched by a hot Green Knights squad who shot 53.6 percnet from the floor in the second half to finish 51% for the game.
 
The battle of the boards remained tight, finishing 31-29 in favor of the Scots.
 
Monmouth's 20 turnovers led to 24 points for St. Norbert on the other end of the floor. The Green Knights posted four players in double digits, led by Terrence Garner who finished with 13.
 
Sophomore off-guard Riley Blea led all Scots scorers with 10 points off the bench, contributing to Monmouth's 27 bench points for the night.
 
The Scots, now 9-6 overall (6-5 MWC, fifth place) will come home to Glennie Gymnasium for a Tuesday night Midwest Conference matchup with the Knox Prairie Fire.
