FREE THROWS SINK SCOTS AT LAKE FOREST

Box Score Monmouth took an early lead, but couldn't overcome a Lake Forest advantage at the free throw line in an 82-63 loss on the road Saturday afternoon.

Lamont Mitchell nailed a 3-pointer and Ben Friday scored inside to give Monmouth an early five-point edge before the Foresters found the range on their home court. The Foresters began their 10-3 run with a pair of free throws and then built an 18-12 lead with 6:19 left in the first half.

Trailing by 10 with 1:16 left in the opening frame, the Scots' Riley Blea drained a 3-pointer to trim the deficit to single digits. Lake Forest then countered with a three-ball in the final minute to put Monmouth in a 33-23 halftime hole.

Lake Forest maintained a double-digit advantage throughout much of the second half, but couldn't put the Scots away until the final minute, hitting all six of their free throws in the final 1:25. The Foresters, who scored their final 16 points from the charity stripe, held a 33-9 advantage over the Scots from the line.
