Box Score Monmouth gave Cornell all the Rams could handle Tuesday night but came up just short in a 59-53 loss at Glennie Gym.
Â
The Scots fought back from a 12-point hole midway through the first quarter when
Tia Robertson scored two of her 14 points on a layup inside and
Kelsey Walsberg followed with another layup and a 3-pointer to cut it to 18-13 at the end of one. That scenario played out in the second period when the Rams drained a pair of threes to regain a double-digit lead at 27-16.
Keri Dodson then started the Monmouth rally, nailing a jumper before Robertson scored back-to-back buckets inside and
Emily Watkins scored in the paint. Robertson's final bucket of the half trimmed the Rams lead to one, but that margin grew to two at 28-26 with a free throw just before half.
Â
Cornell upped their lead to 43-34 at the end of the third quarter as the Scots set for one more rally. A
Katie Houston three-ball on the way to a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds cut the margin to four at 45-41 three minutes into the final frame, but the Scots could get no closer the rest of the way despite holding a commanding 53-28 edge on the boards.
