Box Score Monmouth played lockdown defense and found just enough offense to open Midwest Conference play with a 2-0 win over Cornell Saturday afternoon.
 
The Fighting Scots held the Rams to just three shots – none of them on goal – while ripping off 15 shots and putting nine on target.
 
After neither team could find the net through the first 70 minutes, Monmouth's Darice Brooks took a pass from Alexandra Izquierdo in the 71^st minute to break a scoreless tie. Katy Rees then assisted on Brooks' second goal of the day in the 84^th minute for an insurance score.
