Box Score Continuing to reach for perfection in the Midwest Conference South Division, the Fighting Scots queued up the perfect send off for their seniors, clinching the division title with a 52-0 win over visiting Grinnell on Senior Day.
Once again, Braun's defense lead the way, besting their season low in total yardage allowed by stuffing Grinnell to 80 yards of total offense. Freshman
Thomas Lesniewski anchored the defensive line with six total tackles, two sacks, and two and a half tackles for a loss.
A.J. Mesik held down the fort in the interior of the Scot's defense with four tackles of his own, including a tackle for a loss. In total, the Monmouth defense garnered four sacks and racked up 30 yards for a loss.
The defense shut down any Grinnell chance at running between the tackles. On 30 attempts, the Pioneers were only able to produce 11 yards on the ground and moved the chains only six times.
Monmouth pulled back the reins on the race horse that is the Fighting Scots offense after they sped to a quick 45-0 lead, heading into halftime. The Scots posted 21 first downs, 267 yards on the ground, and 216 yards through the air.
DeAndre Wright set the offense in motion early in the game, finding the end zone on each of the Scots' first two possessions on a pair of runs, 31 and 49 yards respectively. Rushing attempts were limited to four carriers for
DeAndre Wright, but he was able to make the most of his touches and produce 94 yards of offense.
Following a Grinnell three and out,
Alex Sheppard was able to knife through Pioneers on his way to a 58 yard punt return for the score.
The ground game continued to prove successful as four of the first five touchdowns for the Scots would come from the run game.
Trent Rains and
Hayden Nelson were able to blow through the huge holes produced by the offensive line, allowing them to out run Pioneers on their way to touchdowns.
The Fighting Scots victory in the last regular season home game pushed their conference record to 4-0 (7-1 overall).
Next weekend, Monmouth College takes to the road for the twelve mile trek to the home of the Knox College Prairie Fire in the 127
th meeting of the two schools.
