Box Score Monmouth outscored Lake Forest 6-2 over the final four minutes, but the Foresters drained two free throws with less than five seconds left to clip Monmouth 52-51 Saturday afternoon.
The Scots came back from five points down, 50-45 with 3:51 to play when
Katie Houston added a layup on he way to a double-double to drop the margin to three.
Paige Nord then added a bucket and
Emily Watkins made it three straight Scots' baskets to take the lead at 51-50 with 1:54 to play.Â
The Foresters, which turned the ball over 24 times, didn't make a field goal in the final four minutes, but foudn life when
Kelsey Walsberg's 3-pointer was blocked with 18 seconds to play. Lake Forest grabbed the rebound and took a timeout to set up the final play.
Lake Forest knotted the game at 51-51 on a free throw with four seconds left and, following a Monmouth timeout, took the lead with the back end of the two free throws. The Foresters ended the game with their 11th steal of the afternoon.
Houston finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Scots while
Paige Nord added 11 points.
