Box Score Monmouth won their eighth straight to stay in second place, one game behind St. Norbert in the Midwest Conference with a 79-69 win over Ripon.
In the only meeting of the Scots and Red Hawks this season, Monmouth found themselves trailing by double digits midway through the first half. The Scots rallied and after a
Nick Marema 3-pointer with :07 left in the half, trailed 37-34 at the break.
The Scots took the lead in the second half after a bucket in the lane and a 3-pointer from
Will Jones cut the Scots' hole to 43-44.
Andrew Mathison then ignited the crowd with a steal in the backcourt and a breakaway dunk to give Monmouth a 45-44 lead with 14:26 left.
The teams traded the lead until Marema's putback with 9:09 gave the Scots the lead for good at 57-55. The Scots pulled away in the final 45 seconds after going 8-for-8 from the free throw line. The win opened up a two game lead over Ripon in the standings.
Mathison's double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds led four Scots in double figures.
