Cogan's near-record 15 saves not enough for men at Dubuque

Box Score Monmouth's Luke Cogan turned aside 15 shots, just four shy of the school record, but it wasn't enough to keep the Scots from dropping a 4-0 decision to Dubuque on the road.

The Scots' keeper fought off seven of the Spartans eight shots on goal in the first half before succumbing in the final 45 minutes. Dubuque got their lone first half goal in the 23rd minute before the Scots stoned them for the next 30 minutes. Dubuque slipped their second score in with a header off a free kick in the 51st minutes and blasted a 10-yarder in just over 10 minutes later. They added their final goal in the 70th minute to snap a seven match winless streak.

Luke Vandenburg got off five shots, two on goal, to lead Monmouth's offense.

Monmouth returns to Midwest Conference action Saturday with an 11 a.m. game at Knox.
