Men nearly avenge January loss to Foresters

Box Score Monmouth nearly avenged a January loss to Lake Forest, but the Foresters hit three of four free throws in the final 30 seconds to hold off the Scots.

A pair of first half free throws by Spencer Thomas gave the Scots the only double-digit lead of the game by either team. Lake Forest answered the points at the 6:16 mark by hitting their next three shots to close the gap to four at 27-23.

The teams traded the lead over the final 25 minutes as Lake Forest took the lead for good with a 3-pointer with 4:46 left in the game. Greg McLain scored two of his team-high 17 points on a layup a minute later to pull the Scots within one at 61-60. Lake Forest countered and increased their lead to four, 66-62, with a pair of free throws with 1:25 left.

Darren Stringfellow's 3-pointer on the Scots' ensuing possession again pulled Monmouth within one, before the Foresters held onto the lead with late free throws.
