Box Score Monmouth led for much of the first half before Augustana took the lead for good in the final minutes to down the Scots 76-70.
The Scots hit three of their first four shots, including a pair of 3-pointers, to jump out to an 8-0 lead and stayed ahead for the first 11 minutes. Monmouth finshed off the half much like they started, collecting a 3-pointer from
Tiffany Churchill and a free throw from
Kelsey Walsberg to led 33-31 at the half.
A bucket and a free throw from
Katie Houston early in the second half got the Scots rolling in the second 20 minutes as they took a 41-37. Houston then drained back-to-back 3-pointers to push Monouth ahead 51-44 with 12:50 left before the Vikings rallied.
Augustana took advantage of four straight Monmouth misses to climb to a 62-56 lead with 5;23 left. The Scots then put on one last surge when Walsberg hit her fifth 3-pointer of the game to give Monmouth a 63-62 lead with 4:02 left. The Vikings answered with a three of their own and then held off the Scots down the stretch by hitting three of their four free throws.
Walsberg pumped in a game-high 23 points on 7-of-14 shooting while Houston added 16,
Emily Watkins 13 and
Kathleen Forrest 10.
The Scot return home on Saturday hosting Lake Forest in a Midwest Conference matchup at 3 p.m.
