Scots can't overcome late first half drought

Box Score Monmouth played even on the road with Grinnell, but couldn't come back from a four minute drought at the end of the first half of an 89-80 loss in Iowa.

A 13-2 Pioneer run to end the first half put the Scots in a 49-40 hole they couldn't overcome in the second half. Grinnell raced ahead to a 70-59 lead with 11:29 remaining before the Scots rallied.

Tessa Jones' 3-pointer with 4:32 left pulled the Scots to within seven at 77-70. Paige Nord then trimmed the hole to six with a bucket on the Scots next possession.

The Pioneers countered and regained a 10 point edge with 1:05 left before the Scots put on one last surge. A bucket and-one by Nord on her way to a team-high 17 points made it 84-77 with :49 left. Kathleen Forrest then drained a threee to make it 85-80, but the Scots would score no more.

Forrest dumped in 14 points and Katie Houston added 13 and pulled down 13 rebounds to join Nord in double figures.
