Box Score Monmouth hit their free throws down the stretch to clip Grinnell 119-114 as Andrew Mathison and Will Jones pump in a combined 68 points.

The Scots hit 7 of 9 free throws in the final minute to hold off Grinnell after climbing back from trailing 51-45 at halftime. Mathison hit a pair of free throws with 13:52 left in the second half to knot the game at 70-70. He then took a feed from Nick Marema in the lane on Monmouth's next possesson to give the Scots the lead at 72-70.

Jones' basket and-one a minute later pushed Monmouth to an 80-74 lead. Grinnell pulled to within one on back-to-back buckets, but never regained the lead as Monmouth evened their Midwest Conference record at 1-1.

Mathison turned in a double-double of 35 points and 13 rebounds while Jones poured in 33 points on 21-of-28 free throws. Marema and Paul Engo, III chipped in 10 each as Monmouth posted the win without attempting a 3-point shot and outrebounding Grinnell 50-34.
