Houston's 24 not enough to overcome cold shooting by Scots

Box Score Cold shooting hampered Monmouth in a season-opening 76=55 loss to Wartburg.

The Scots were held to 29 percent shooting from the floor, but still jumped out to a quick lead to open the game. A pair of free throws by Katie Houston on her way to a game-high 24 points and a bucket by Allison Todd gave Monmouth an 8-4 lead in the first four minutes. Wartburg responded with a 3-point and began an 11-0 run to take the lead and never trailed.

Entering the second half trailing by 10, a bucket by Tiffany Churchill and a 3-pointer by Maria Steck twice cut the Scots deficit to eight early in the final frame. The Knights responded again with a double-digit run and held the Scots at bay over the remainder of the game.
