Men win, but miss postseason on tiebreaker

Box Score Monmouth did what they had to do, but the chips didn't fall the Scots' way after a 3-1 win at Beloit on the final game of the regular season.

The Scots had to beat the Bucs to have a shot at their first Midwest Conference Tournament appearance since 2001. Beloit got up early thanks to a Penalty Kick in the first 15 minutes.

Monmouth then scored three unassisted goals to post the win. Luke Vandenberg's goal with 15 minutes left in the first half knotted the score before Chizobam Nkemeh gave the Scots the lead in the 42nd minute. Brad Dulee capped the Scots' scoring wiht a goal in the 80th minute as Monmouth outshot the Bucs 21-7.

Earlier, Knox dropped their first MWC game, falling 2-1 to Lake Forest, propelling the Foresters into the postseason as the No. 2 seed. IC's 6-0 blanking of Cornell and Carroll's 2-0 loss to St. Norbert created a three-way tie for the final two spots between the Scots, Blue Boys and Pioneers. It came down to the second criteria on the tiebreaker - goal differential between the tied teams, leaving the Scots short by one goal.
