No. 300 is treat for volleyball coach Kari Shimmin on Halloween

Box Score Monmouth's Kari Shimmin became just the third coach in Fighting Scots history to win 300 games in a career after her volleyball team defeated Grinnell 3-2 Friday night.

The Scots gave their coach a Halloween treat, breaking a four-match losing streak with a win in the season finale. Monmouth took the first two sets 25-20, 25-21 but dropped the next two, 25-21, 25-22.

Monmouth jumped out to a 10-5 win in the decisive fifth set, but had to hold off a pesky Pioneer team. Grinnell closed the gap but Mackenzie Gillund's kill broke the Pioneer serve at 13-9. The Scots completed the 3-2 win on Gillund's block two points later. Quincy Merritt recorded a match-high 17 kills for the Scots.

With the win, Shimmin joined legendary coach Terry Glasgow, who recorded 343 baseball wins and 469 basketball victories, and current baseball coach Roger Sander (353 wins) as the only coaches in Monmouth athletics history to record 300 wins.
