Box Score Kaley Corban hit Monmouth's only 3-pointer of the game with nine seconds left to lift the Scots to a 71-69 win over Carroll, giving the Scots sole possession of third place in the Midwest Conference standings.
Carroll took just their second lead of the game on Emma Kopp's 3-pointer with 8:26 left in the game as the teams traded the lead seven times down the stretch. The Pioneers stretched their lead to 69-65 on a trey from Emily DeNoyer with 3:00 left, but the Scots defense stiffened and the offense got a free throw from Jacquice Cooper on their next possession. Marla Willard then pulled a defensive board after a Pioneer miss and sank a pair of free throws with 2:11 left to close to 69-68.
Following back-to-back timeouts with 53 seconds left, a Pioneers turnover gave the Scots the ball for Corban's heroics.
Willard poured in 25 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for the Scots as Corban added 13, Paige Nord chipped in 12 and Katie Houston added 10. Carroll was paced by DeNoyer's 20. Brianna Johnson added 14 and Corrine Engels scored 13.
