Box Score Monmouth couldn't overcome cold shooting in a 66-54 loss to Carroll at Glennie Gym.
The Pioneers hit 20 of 34 shots to overcome 20 turnovers and pull into a tie with the Scots in the Midwest Conference.
Monmouth held a 26-24 halftime lead despite hitting just 10 of 28 shots in the first 20 minutes. Cole Jackson opened the second half with a bucket and a pair of free throws on his way to a team-high 20 points, but the Pioneers countered to take a 35-30 lead with 15:30 left in the game on a bucket-and-one.
The Scots stayed within single digits and closed the gap when Andrew Mathison's bucket in the paint with 7:09 left trimmed the deficit to 47-45 before the Pioneers went on an 11-0 run to open the first double-digit lead of the game. Monmouth twice cut the margin down to nine in the final two minutes, but Carroll held off the rally making five of six free throws in the final 90 seconds.
