Men give high-octane Grinnell a run for their money

Box Score Monmouth fell just short 121-115 to visiting Grinnell in a game that seemed to be played in fast forward.

The Scots dominated the Pioneers 74-18 in the paint but weren't able to overcome Grinnell's 23 three-pointers on 56% shooting.

Monmouth overcame a nine point first half deficit and took a one point lead on a Spencer Thomas lay-up with 13:45 remaining. The two teams traded buckets for the next three minutes until the Pioneers took their final lead of the game at 89-88 with 9:21 left in the game.

The Pioneers hit 9 of 11 shots from the charity stripe down the stretch to salt the game away.

Cole Jackson went for 28 points and Andrew Mathison tallied a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Scots. Thomas had 14 off the bench while Nick Marema and Matt Juhola poured in 13 point apiece.

Monmouth travels to Lawrence University this Saturday before returning to take on Illinois College at Glennie Gymnasium on Feb. 5th
