Willard's buzzer-beating 1,000th point gives women 64-62 win over St. Norbert

Box Score Monmouth's Marla Willard scored her 1,000th career points with the game-winning bucket in the Scots' 64-62 win over St. Norbert.

The Scots trailed most of the game, but found just enough offense in the final minutes to hand the Green Knights their first league loss. Trailing by four, 60-56 with 1:41 left in the game, Paige Nord drove in the lane to score an and-one, cutting it to a one possession game. St. Norbert's Lana Tomashek answered with a bucket inside to give the Knights a three point edge.

Kaley Corban – who hit the game-winning shot on Wednesday – then took a pass from Willard and drained a 3-pointer to knot the game at 62-all with 37 seconds left.

Following a St. Norbert timeout, Willard recorded her fourth steal of the game to give the Scots one last possession. A mishandled rebound of a Nord miss with one second left gave the Scots the ball on their own baseline and a chance to take a timeout.

Corban then found Willard open down low for the winning shot as time expired.

Willard – who finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds – became just the ninth woman in Monmouth history to score1,000 points. Jacquice Cooper led all scorers with 15 points and Nord added 13.
