Box Score Monmouth advanced to the title game of the Midwest Conference Championships for the third consecutive year with a 66-48 win over St. Norbert in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
The Fighting Scots will face the host Cornell Rams in a 3 p.m. contest that will send the winner to the NCAA Tournament.
Monmouth avenged a January loss to St. Norbert and led for all but the opening minute in the rematch. Both teams found first half buckets hard to come by as the Scots went into the locker room at half leading 27-4.
Colleen’s Forrest’s 3-pointer early in the second half opened up a 32-24 Monmouth lead but the Green Knight’s countered, trimming the Scots’ advantage to 32-31 with 14 minutes left. Monmouth then rolled off eight unanswered points to build a 40-31 lead.
Zipporah Williams’ bucket with 5:14 left gave Monmouth their first double-digit lead of the game as the Scots were able to close out the win, setting up Saturday’s title tilt with Cornell.
Marla Willard poured in a game-high 21 points and Williams added 14.
