Men win a thriller in the season finale

Box Score Monmouth rallied from an 18-point second half deficit to pull out a 64-61 win over Lake Forest on the Scots’ Senior Night.

Senior Mike DeDecker poured in a game-high 22 points, including two free throws with two seconds left to preserve the win. Lake Forest cooled after hitting nearly 60 percent of their first half shots and the Scots took advantage.

Trailing 41-26 at halftime, the Scots chipped way, pulling within single digits when DeDecker found Ben Friday open for a layup five minutes into the second half. Senior Wes Dukeman followed with his own layup and converted the free throw after being fouled on the shot to close the gap to 49-43.

A Forester drought helped along by a pair of Jon Calhoun steals opened the door for the Scots to complete the comeback. A pair of DeDecker free throws and a Calhoun three, with the assist from DeDecker, completed Monmouth’s 15-0 run and gave them a 60-56 lead with 4:28 left. The Scots held that margin until Lake Forest trimmed it to 62-61 on a three with four seconds left before DeDecker’s final free throws completed the win.

Dukeman finished with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Friday chipped in with 10 points.
