Marema pours in 30 as Scots fend off Bucs

Box Score Monmouth overcame a 6 point halftime deficit and Nick Marema logged his second 30 point game of the young season to win a thriller against Beloit, 82-79.

Beloit closed the first half on an 11-2 run to take a 37-31 halftime lead. Monmouth opened the second half on an 8-2 run of their own to tie the contest at 39-39 highlighted by three pointers from Marema and Cole Jackson.

In a half that saw the lead change 11 times, Ben Friday hit two free throws to break the tie for the last time, giving Monmouth a 79-77 lead with 1:14 left to play. Two Marema free throws gave the Scots a four point advantage late and polished off his 30 point performance.

After a Beloit three pointer in the waning seconds missed the mark, Jackson hit one of two free throws to conclude the scoring. Jackson and Andrew Mathison joined Marema in double-figures with 13 and 12 points respectively.

With the win, Monmouth improved to 3-4 on the season and 2-2 in Midwest Conference play.
