Men hold off Knox down the stretch for 74-70 win

Box Score Ross Langlois hit three free throws in the final 15 seconds Tuesday night as the Scots held off Knox 74-70 in Galesburg.

The win moved the Scots to the upper half of the Midwest Conference standings at 3-2. Monmouth had taken an 11-point first half lead on Jon Calhoun's jumper with 9:37 remaining in the half, but Knox fired back and cut the margin to 38-36 with a Eric Miller 3-pointer 15 seconds before the half.

The teams battled nearly even over the last 20 minutes with Monmouth taking a six-point lead on two Ben Friday free throws midway through the second half. Knox again had an answer and tied the game on a pair of David Jones free throws with less than five minutes remaining in the game.

A free throw seconds later by Langlois and two of Andrew Mathison's game-high 18 points stretched Monmouth's lead back to three at 64-61 as the Scots held the lead for the final four minutes. Langlois scored all eight of his points in the final five minutes of the game to give the Scots their fourth straight win over the Prairie Fire.
