Scots advance to MWC title tilt

Box Score For the first time in school history the Monmouth College women's soccer team has advanced to the finals of the Midwest Conference Tournament.

The Fighting Scots won their school-record 12th game of the season, posting a 3-2 win over Lake Forest in the first round Friday in DePere, Wis. The teams had played to a 1-1 double overtime tie in the regular season two weeks ago.

Freshmen Andrea Correa and Unique Manns teamed up for the game-winner in the waning minutes. Neither team mounted much of an attack after halftime until Manns found Correa open for the winning shot with 10 minutes left in regulation.

Monmouth – seeded second in the tournament – had to come from behind twice in the first half. Lauren Kellen's first of two goals on the day came from 30 yards out as she blasted it past the Foresters' keeper to knot the game at 1-1 in the first 10 minutes. Kellen scored again midway through the half, and again tied the game, this time at 2-2.

The game stood deadlocked until Correa's goal sent the Scots into Saturday night's championship match. The Scots will face top seed St. Norbert at 6 p.m. Saturday. The Knights handled Grinnell 3-1 Friday afternoon.

Monmouth defeasted St. Norbert in the conference season-opener in September. Correa had a key goal in that game, scoring the game-winner in overtime to give the Scots a 4-3 win.
