Box Score Double-doubles from Monmouth's Marla Willard and Jacquice Cooper weren't enough to overcome visiting Ripon, as Monmouth fell 57-54 to open MWC play.
Cooper tied the game with a slashing drive in the lane to tie the score at 40 with 10:41 left in the second half, but the Red Hawks answered with an 11-2 run to take a 51-42 advantage. The Scots didn't go away as they went on a 9-0 run of their own which included 9 straight points from Willard, who recorded her fourth straight double-double.
Paige Nord's free throw with 2:08 left in the game gave Monmouth a 52-51 lead, their first since the score was 20-19 late in the first half. A Ripon free throw tied the game back up before Kim Coleman slashed into the lane to take a 54-52 lead with 1:15 left.
Two Ripon free throws tied the game at 54-54 and three more from the charity stripe concluded the scoring. The Scots had a chance to tie with 2.6 seconds when Paige Nord's 3-pointer at the buzzer was just off the mark.
Monmouth out-rebounded Ripon 43-37 and led in points in the paint 32-24 in a game that saw 11 ties and 11 lead changes.
