Box Score Monmouth held high-scoring Grinnell to the Pioneer’s second-lowest point total of the season, but fell on the road 93-67.
Cold shooting hampered the Scots who hit just 24 of 71 shots. Despite the shooting woes, the Scots were able to stay close through much of the first half. The Pioneers threatened to pull away midway through the opening period, but Jon Calhoun’s layup following Wes Dukeman’s free throw put Monmouth within five at 19-14.
After Grinnell mounted a small run, Dukeman and Wes DeClerqc converted on a pair of layups to keep the Scots within single digits.
The teams played nearly even in the opening minutes of the second, but Grinnell’s 15-5 run over a five minute span put the Scots down by 19. Another DeClerqc layup – he scored a team-high 16 points – a minute later pulled Monmouth to 67-50, but they would get no closer.
Dukeman finished with his fourth double-double of the season, scoring 10 points and pulling down 17 rebounds.
