Box Score Monmouth rallied from a 10 point first half deficit, but fell in overtime to Dubuque 76-71.
The Scots fought their way back at the end of the first half when Wes DeClerqc drained a 3-pointer and Mike DeDecker followed with a bucket inside in the final minute of the opening frame to trail by three, 39-36, at the intermission. Monmouth never led in the first half, but stayed within striking distance as DeClerqc came off the bench to nail a trio of treys. His first cut their lead to five with just under five minutes left in the first half.
Monmouth took their first lead of the game on a pair of DeClerqc free throws, giving the Scots a 42-41 lead three minutes into the second half. Wes Dukeman’s two free throws with 11 minutes left gave the Scots their largest lead of the game, six points, at 56-50. The Scots nursed the lead until the 4:39 mark when the Spartans tied it at 63-63.
Trailing 67-65 in the final minute, Dubuque scored inside as the game went into overtime when DeClerqc’s three at the horn missed the mark.
DeDecker opened the overtime scoring with a 3-pointer to give the Scots a quick lead before the Spartans rallied to take the lead for good on a bucket inside with 1:12 left for a 73-71 edge. Dubuque then iced the game with a pair of free throws with 10 seconds left for the win.
Dukeman's 20 led four Scots in double figures.
