Box Score No. 24 Monmouth tied the school record with 10 blocked shots and had two players record double-doubles in a 107-85 win over Knox.
The Fighting Scots blew open a close game by starting the second half with a 16-6 run. Kim Coleman’s bucket inside started the final 6-0 stretch that put the Scots up 19 at 13:32. Knox never got closer than 14 points the rest of the way.
Monmouth slowly pulled away in the first half as Marla Willard logged a double-double by halftime and Zipporah Williams right behind. Willard’s bucket midway through the half gave the Scots the lead that they never surrendered.
Playing against the Prairie Fire’s offense which runs the Grinnell System, the Scots refrained from taking many threes and didn’t launch a shot from beyond the arc until the second half. The Scots shot just over 50 percent from the floor as Williams hit 12-of-15 shots and recorded a double-double of a career-high 31 points and 17 rebounds. Her point total was just six shy of the record set by her coach Melissa (Jones) Bittner in 2002. Willard finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Paige Nord added 17 points while Kathleen Forrest chipped in 12 and Kaley Corban added 10.
