Box Score Monmouth scored the game’s first 11 points and never trailed en route to a 90-73 win over Beloit earning coach Melissa Bittner her 100th career win.
Now in her eighth year, Bittner improved to 100-72 lifetime as the Scots also tied the team record picking up their sixth straight win to open the season. A pair of Colleen Forest 3-pointers helped Monmouth get the early lead as the Scots shots a blistering 57 percent in the first half.
The Scots then scored the first 14 points of the second half and eventually took their largest lead of the game on Zipporah Williams’ layup with 8:28 left. Monmouth then maintained lead by no fewer than 18 points until the Bucs cut the Scots’ lead to 17 with a bucket in the last 30 seconds.
Forrest led the Scots with 15 points – all on 3-pointers – while Marla Willard and Williams added 13. Kaley Corban chipped in with 11.
The win kept the Scots tied with Grinnell atop the Midwest Conference standings at 2-0. The teams will meet Tuesday night at 5 p.m. at Monmouth’s Glennie Gym.
