One school record fell and five personal-bests were recorded as the Monmouth College swimming and diving team took a double dip last weekend.
The Fighting Scots opened their weekend at the Illinois Institute of Technology on Friday and completed their double header weekend with a meet the following day at Lake Forest.
Sophomore Clarissa Henby got the Scots off to a good start, breaking Monmouth’s five-year-old record in the diving well on the 1-meter to take first. Her six-dive score of 186.50 was more than 15 points higher than the record set by Kayce DeRoo in 2007.
A four-for-four effort by Erica McAloon also highlighted the grueling weekend. The senior took a pair of firsts in Friday meet with the Illinois Institute of Technology and won twice more on Saturday at Lake Forest. McAloon posted a pair of lifetime marks in the Illinois Tech pool. She won the 500 yard freestyle by nine seconds in 5:43.10 and touched first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:40.39. Swimming in the metered pool at Lake Forest, McAloon won by four seconds in the 100 meter freestyle and was four seconds ahead of the runner up in the 100 breaststroke.
Three other Scots also posted PR swims at Illinois Tech.
Freshmen Stephanie Komaniecki posted an 11:50.97 to win the 1,000 freestyle and Morgan Bruess set her mark in the 200 backstroke with a 2:28.80. On the men’s side, junior Gabe Baginski turned in his personal-best of 2:05.45 to place second in the 200 IM.
Monmouth’s women also picked up firsts in the shorter freestyle events Friday. Erin Willhite touched first in the 100 and 200 freestyles with times of 58.54 and 2:09.78, respectively. Amanda Zaidel took top honors in the 50 free, posting a 27.71 to win by nine one-hundredths.
Willhite added another win on Saturday, swimming a 29.67 in the 50-meter freestyle.
Baginski, Tony Marino, Joren Seibert and Neal Hosper teamed up on Saturday to give the men their first win of the weekend. The foursome’s 200 meter freestyle relay team swam a 1:43.99 to win by a little more than three seconds.
The Scots are now prepping for their Monmouth Invitational next weekend which begins a series of meets every week prior to the winter break.
