Elizabeth Demara continues to make history as the first coach in the history of women’s lacrosse at Monmouth College and enters her fifth season in 2021.
The rapidly improving Scots posted more wins in 2019 than the two previous seasons combined and nearly doubled their point total from 2018. The squad also saw an improved scoring balance and lowered their goals against average. Demara’s team set program highs athletically and academically in 2019 and were on their way to another great year before the COVID-19 pandemic ended the season after just three games.
Demara's teams have also made the grade both on the field and in the classroom. Her inaugural team produced two all-conference honorees and seven academic all-conference selections. The 2018 team duplicated the pair of all-league honorees while doubling their win total from the inaugural season, and added another seven academic all-conference selections. In 2019, the Scots claimed seven more academic awards and a program-high three all-league honorees. Eight student-athletes made the academic all-conference grade in 2020 when the squad posted a remarkable 3.39 team GPA.
On the national scene, the 2017 and 2018 teams earned all-academic team honors. Three Scots were named to the national academic honor roll in 2018, a year after the Scots landed had one student-athlete on the list.
Demara, who played collegiately at Division I St. Bonaventure, joined Monmouth after serving as an assistant coach at Division II Alderson Broaddus University. A native of Boulder, Colo., Demara spent a season working at the Division III level and with club teams following her graduation from St. Bonaventure, where she was a four-year member of the lacrosse team, playing in 31 of a possible 33 games her first two seasons.
Demara, who also serves the department as the Senior Woman Administrator, earned her bachelor’s degree in sports studies from St. Bonaventure and her master’s in sports administration from Canisius. She resides in Monmouth with her loyal dogs, Sophie and Lonnie.
