John Goddard is in his 11th year as the Head Softball Coach at Monmouth where he also serves as the Director of Intramurals. He's the longest-serving head coach in the history of the program.
Goddard is a two-time Midwest Conference South Division Coach of the Year and one of the most successful coaches in Monmouth softball history. He ranks as the winningest coach in Monmouth softball history and picked up his 100th career win in the 2014 season-opener.
Goddard has guided the Fighting Scots to the four-team Midwest Conference Tournament seven times, more than any other coach in program history. In 2011, the Scots won the divisional title with a 12-1 record, the first divisional crown since 2003. The 2011 team sported both the South Division’s Pitcher and co-Player of the Year, marking the first time the Scots won both honors. The 2014 squad obliterated the program's home run record en route to the team earning two positions on the NFCA All-Region team.
Goddard grew up playing baseball and softball in Washington Ill. He went on to play baseball at and receive his degree from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville.
Goddard views life on the softball field as a microcosm for everyday life. One’s individual performance is important because it affects the rest of the team, but a player cannot simply rely on her teammates to get the ball. One must be self-motivated to play to her greatest capacity every time she steps on the field.
