Illinois native and former collegiate standout Alexa McClaughry was named the 15th head coach in the history of Monmouth College softball in May of 2020. She led the Scots to the Midwest Conference Tournament in 2022 with a fourth place finish in the regular season.Â
Â
McClaughry had previously held head coaching positions at MacMurray College and Robert Morris University-Springfield. Just six games into the pandemic-shortened 2020 season – her first at MacMurray – McClaughry had guided the Highlanders to within one win of the previous year’s entire win total. The team was rewriting the program’s record books and had two players hitting .500 when the season ended.
Â
A four-year member of the University of Illinois-Springfield softball team and a four-time All-Academic Great Lakes Valley Conference honoree, McClaughry graduated cum laude from Illinois-Springfield with a degree in mathematical sciences. She earned a master’s degree in kinesiology from Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville. She lives in Peoria with her loyal canine appropriately named "Coach."
