Scots Hold on to Beat Lakeland

Kistker scores twice, adds assist

The Monmouth College women's soccer team played their third straight road game to start the season and they won 3-2 at Lakeland on Saturday afternoon. The Scots (2-1) will play two home games in the next week, including the home opener on Monday.

"That game got very physical, and I thought our players maintained composure and did a great job seeing it through, said head coach Lucas Henderson. "A really impressive day for Morgan - not often you see a freshman have a 2-goal, 1-assist day this early in September. All in all a nice step forward and a good, hard fought win."

Just three minutes into the game, Jackie Contreras (Peoria, Illinois) put a shot on goal but it was saved and she added another shot two minutes later. The Scots took the lead in the 27th minute through junior Mariah Hobson (Princeton, Illinois) with her first goal of the season. The opening-goal assist was provided by freshman Morgan Kistler (Kokomo, Indiana) and 10 minutes later, Kistler made it 2-0 off a pass from Allison Griffin (Geneseo, Illinois). In between the two Monmouth goals, Scots goalkeeper Izzy Seipold (Peoria, Illinois) made a save on the Muskies first shot on goal.

The Scots led 2-0 at halftime and for the first 15 minutes of the second half. Lakeland got on the board with their second shot on goal to make it 2-1 with 30 minutes left to play. Ten minutes later, Kistler scored her second of the game to restore the 2-goal lead as Natalya Main (Peoria, Illinois) picked up the assist. However, the Muskies scored again with just under 15 minutes to play. Hobson forced a save with 10 minutes left and the game ended 3-2.
