The Monmouth College women's soccer team returned to action on Wednesday night and lost 5-1 at Simpson. The Fighting Scots (4-3-1) had Saturday's game canceled by storms as they took the field for the first time in a week.
Morgan Kistler (Kokomo, Indiana) put the Scots on the front foot right away with a breakaway goal just 3:32 into the contest. She moved down the middle of the field, went into the box on the right side, around a defender and beat the Simpson keeper with a low shot into the far corner.
Monmouth's lead was short lived though as the Storm tied the game in the seventh minute with a scramble inside the six-yard box. The hosts took the lead in the 19th minute and led 2-1 at halftime.
The Storm made it 3-1 in the 63rd minute and added another goal just 2:40 later. In the 68th minute the lead grew to 5-1 as the Storm scored three goals in a 5-minute span.
Ali Denton (Saint Peters, Missouri) put Monmouth's second shot on goal in the 69th minute but Simpson made the save. Scots keeper
Izzy Seipold (Peoria, Illinois) finished the game with eight saves.
