Monmouth College men's golfer
Connor Watson (Macomb, Illinois) was named the SLIAC Performer of the Week on Monday. Watson won the Fighting Scot Invite over the weekend in his first home event as college golfer.
Watson carded nine birdies on the weekend and shot a second round 68 (-3) on Sunday to claim the title by one stroke. He opened the event with an even par 71 on Saturday. Watson's 68 on Sunday is tied for the third-best round by a Monmouth College golfer at Gibson Woods. HIs 139 for a 36-hole event is tied for the second-best 36-hole score in Monmouth history at any golf course. Norm Lydiard shot a 138 at Gibson Woods in the 1975 MCAC Championships. David Blake also carded a 139 at the 2014 Scot-Fire Invite as did Brandon Kemerling at the 2010 Augustana Invite.
Watson and the Scots will be in action this weekend at the Midwest Region Classic in Kansasville, Wisconsin. The two-day event runs Friday and Saturday.
