Hobson Scores Twice as Scots Win at Cornell

The Monmouth College women's soccer team moved into fourth place in the Midwest Conference standings with a 3-2 road win at Cornell on Saturday. With one game to play, the Fighting Scots (7-5-3, 3-2-2) control their own destiny to make the MWC Tournament. The Scots will host first-place and nationally ranked Lake Forest next Saturday and will clinch with a win or tie, or Grinnell non win at Knox.

"We didn't make it easy on ourselves but we found a way," said head coach Lucas Henderson. "We had a lot of players out there battling through injury, Allison, Lauren, Mariah all fought through something to be out there today."

Cornell took the lead in the 20th minute with their third conference goal of the season. The Scots battled back and tied the game 10 minutes later. Lauren DellaValle (Peoria, Illinois) fed Mariah Hobson (Princeton, Illinois) who beat the Rams keeper with a shot to the right corner. Neither team scored over the next 15 minutes as Monmouth goalkeeper Izzy Seipold (Peoria, Illinois) made five saves in the first half.

Four minutes into the second half, Hobson put the Scots on top 2-1 with an unassisted goal. Two minutes later, Hobson turned provider as she assisted Morgan Kistler's (Kokomo, Indiana) 10th goal of the season for a 3-1 Monmouth lead. The Rams got on the board again with 25 minutes to play. Seipold made eight saves in the second half to keep the Scots on top.

"Lauren jump started two of our goals and Mariah and Morgan made the difference in the scoresheet," said Henderson.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Seipold and defender Ali Barnum (Pekin, Illinois) played all 90 minutes…Kistler has 10 goals on the season, tied for 19th on the Monmouth single-season list…Hobson also scored two goals against Buena Vista in September…She has five goals on the season and 11 for her career…DellaValle has two assists this season…Seipold posted 13 saves, her second-highest total on the season and most she has made in a MWC game…Monmouth leads the all-time series with Cornell 17-11-1 including a 5-0-1 mark since a loss in the 2019 regular season…Monmouth won 2-0 in 2024 and 2023…The Scots finish the regular season next Saturday with an 11 a.m. home kickoff against nationally ranked Lake Forest.
