Griffin Scores but Scots Fall to IC on Tuesday

Despite scoring first, the Monmouth College women's soccer team lost 5-1 at home against Illinois College on Tuesday afternoon. The Fighting Scots (6-5-2, 2-2-1) have just one home game left on the season, following three straight road contests.  

The action was back and forth over the first 20 minutes with both goalkeepers making two saves. In the 23rd minute, Monmouth won a corner kick and put the ball into the goal mouth. Mariah Hobson (Princeton, Illinois) had her shot saved but not cleared by the Lady Blues. Morgan Kistler (Kokomo, Indiana) crossed the ball and Allison Griffin (Geneseo, Illinois) scored for a 1-0 Monmouth lead. 

The Scots pressed to add to the lead but IC made saves on both Kistler and Jackie Contreras (Peoria, Illinois) With 1:50 to play in the half, Illinois College tied the game and they nearly took the lead before the break but Izzy Seipold (Peoria, Illinois) made a save in the final 40 seconds. 

IC took the lead just 37 seconds into the second half and they made it 3-1 within five minutes of the restart. Kistler was denied by the IC keeper before the visitors took a 4-1 lead. Hobson had a shot saved and Contreras had two shots turned back over the next 20 minutes. The Lady Blues made it 5-1 with a goal in the final minute of play. 

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Griffin scored her first goal of the season and seventh of her career…Medinger picked up her first assist of the season, and first yellow card…She is second on the team with nine points…Seipold made nine saves…Shots were 24-15 in favor of IC and shots on goal were 14-10…Hobson led Monmouth with six shots and four shots on goal…Seipold, Avery Parks (Bloomington, Indiana) and Ali Barnum (Pekin, Illinois) played all 90 minutes…Illinois College has won three straight in the series and leads the all-time series 22-10-2…The Scots play at Ripon at 11 a.m. on Saturday…The next home game is Nov. 1 against Lake Forest.
