Leber Homers But Scots Lose Twice Tuesday

The Monmouth College softball team lost both games of the Florida spring break trip on Tuesday. The first game was a 5-3 loss on a walk off home run to Marian and the second was a 7-0 loss to University of Northwestern – Minnesota.

The Scots got on the board first against Marian. Addison Riley (Illinois City, Illinois) led off the third with a single and scored on a double by MyKenzie Kloess (Dupo, Illinois). In the fourth, Madelyn Belville (Rushville, Illinois) walked with one out and Abby Leber (Tremont, Illinois) launched a two-run homer for a 3-0 Scots lead. The home run was the first of the season for Leber and for the Scots as a team.

Marian got on the board in the fourth against Leber and tied the game in the sixth after an error and a double. Monmouth left two on base in the top of the seventh and Marian won the game in the bottom of the game with a single and a one-out home run.

In game two the Scots fell behind with an unearned run in the top of the first. The game stayed 1-0 until the fifth when UNW plated three runs against Addison Steward (Danvers, Illinois). Anna McCarty (Buffalo, Illinois) came out of the bullpen for a strikeout to end the inning with the bases loaded but the Eagles scored three more in the sixth.

Kloess, Riley and Allie Ramlo (Tremont, Illinois) had two hits each in game while while Jessica Pauley (Moline, Illinois) and Belville (Rushville, Illinois) had two hits in game two. The Scots are off on Wednesday before playing two more games on Thursday. They will face Husson University at 2:15 p.m. CT and Lakeland University at 4:15 p.m. CT.
