Box Score The Monmouth College women's soccer team fell behind just 41 seconds into the match against No. 14 Loras College on Tuesday night and never caught up. The Duhawks finished with 15 shots on goal in the 5-1 win as the Scots scored in the closing seconds.
Loras got a free kick inside the Scots half within the first 20 seconds of the match. The ball was played into the box and pin-balled off the heads of four players, including one Scots defender. Brynn Jacobi got the last touch to head it past
Quinn Cutler (Breese, Illinois) at the 41 second mark.
Jacobi scored again with 16 minutes to play in the half as Loras took a 2-0 lead into the break. She made it a hat-trick 10 minutes into the second half and the Duhawks added two more with the final goal coming on a poor clearance attempt in the box from the Scots.
Monmouth got on the board in the final seconds of the game. Loras was whistled for an infraction in the box with six seconds remaining. Senior
Hadyn DeLeeuw (Kirksville, Missouri) stepped up and buried the penalty kick for her second goal of the season.
The Scots start Midwest Conference play at 11 a.m. Saturday when they host Lake Forest College. They will also be home on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 4:30 p.m. against Knox.
