The Monmouth College softball team split a double header at Knox College on Saturday in their final road games of the 2021 season. The Fighting Scots (5-19, 4-10) won the opener 9-2 and lost the nightcap 10-2.

In the opener the Scots jumped out to a lead in the top of the first.
Makaylea Sepich (Mackinaw, Illinois) singled home
Calista Warmowski (Sugar Grove, Illinois) for a 1-0 lead. In the second inning
Addison Riley (Illinois City, Illinois) reached on an error as
Brittney Enos (Fisher, Illinois) scored for a 2-0 lead.

Knox scored in the second and sixth against
Abby Leber (Tremont, Illinois) to tie the game 2-2.

Alex Chamberlain (Canton, Illinois) led off the seventh with a single and moved to second when Warmowski singled. Leber's single loaded the bases and Chamberlain scored the go-ahead run when
Jessica Pauley (Moline, Illinois) was hit by a pitch. Two runs scored on an error for a 5-2 Scots lead and another run scored on a groundout by Sepich. Enos singled home
Allison Trettin (Manito, Illinois) for a 7-2 lead and Warmowski capped the inning with a two-run single.

"Brittney had a good day at the plate," said coach Alexa McClaughrey. "Kay and Calista also did well offensively for us."

Leber improved to 5-8 on the season with her eighth complete game. She allowed two runs on five hits over seven innings while striking out four and walking one.

The Scots fell behind in the second inning of game two as Knox scored three times. The hosts added three more in the third for a 6-0 lead.

Pauley homered in the fifth, her second of the season. The two-run shot got the Scots on the board, trailing 6-2. Knox plated four in the fifth to win 10-2 on the run rule.

"It was good to see Jess get another ball over the fence," said McClaughrey.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Pauley has two homers on the season, both at Knox…She ranks 12
th on the Scots career list with 21 doubles…Pauley has 47 career RBI, 15
th on the Scots list…Leber is now in the single-season top 20 for pitching strikeouts with 53…Warmowski had five hits total, three in the opener and two in the nightcap…The Scots finish the regular season at home next Sunday against Grinnell College…The double header begins at 1 p.m. and the four seniors will be honored.
